Banff National Park, Alberta
Call me the king of the mountain
Lake Louise is the most famous lake of all of the famous lakes in Banff. It is famous for its color (which photographed quite accurately) and its busy, world famous hotel, the Chateau Lake Louise (or Chateau Lac Louise as the French signs suggest).
At least five miles from my parked car on a twelve mile journey that would see elevation changes of well over 3,000 feet, this is the aptly named Plain of the Six Glaciers as seen through the pine on a trail that looped through the Beehive and back along the lake. My favorite hike in the park and the one that got me deepest into the back country and really into the mountains.
A little earlier on the same journey, looking down 1,000 feet (or so) to where I just came from, in this case the lovely but misunderstood Lake Edith.
We’re going to end our (all too) short journey to the Canadian Rockies with some more pictures of the Canadian Rockies. Most (but not all) of these are from the back country near Lake Louise, where the mountains and the glaciers are all that there is to see.
