London, England

I want to live like common people, I want to do whatever common people do

One of the most fun buildings that London has to offer is its shiny new City Hall, completed last year by Sir Norman Foster. Sir Norman is all over London and all over its Open House and for good reason, he's at the top of his game and is churning out memorable project after memorable project. The London City Hall experience is most definitely fun, with stairs and lookouts and enough glass to make anything look good.

At the bottom of the stairs is the main meeting room for all of the various London councils, surprisingly quiet considering all those hard surfaces.

As much fun outside as it is inside, the building almost bends over backwards to get attention. Sadly its not enough for that guy in the foreground who thinks the dumb ass American in a glass box next door is more impressive that Sir Norman could ever be.

A better reference for anyone who has ever been to London. The City Hall building is directly across the river from the Tower of London and within clear view of the Tower Bridge.

Looking up, looking down or walking on it, the interior stair is just about as much fun as any you can imagine.

Six pictures are not enough for this building, the most fun architectural experience in a trip organized around fun architectural experiences. I am not sure if this is open to the public on non-Open House days (I don't think it is), but I do know it will be open the next time I go to London Open House. Reason enough to go. Trust me.

Inside "London's Living Room," on the top floor with all of London waiting.

Into the basement. The very, very bottom of the stair/ramp spiral takes you to a floor with an accurate, photo quality map of London and everything near by, something which meant a lot to all those people hunched over and pointing at where they started this morning.
