Chicago, Illinois
You can tie me to the ground, just not today
The best view of a still (slightly) green Chicago is from its best building, the John Hancock Tower on North Michigan Avenue.
A bit earlier (or, more accurately, a few days later), Chicago is still there.
While there are always good, valid reasons to go to Chicago, this trip was part of an escalating tradition, a birthday gift to my father that involves some travel and a hockey game. This year's game was especially horrible, the Blackhawks are having one of those years that makes the New York Rangers look like the Detroit Red Wings, and watching them get completely outplayed 4-0 by the Dallas Stars was probably a low point of an otherwise fun weekend.
The view from our serviceable hotel room was looking head on at the backside of the Hancock Tower, particularly its circular ramp that leads into its multiple floor parking garage. This is the same view only fourteen floors lower (damn screen windows) of the always familiar tower with all its flashy cross bracing.
Another view from the observation deck, although somehow one a bit brighter than the first picture above.
We are now presented with another time jump, and this is a big one, From March we are now suddenly in September. Millennium Park is now open and, more importantly for you, I have finally given in and switched full time to a digital camera, a fact that will likely explain the improved resolution on these last two pages (or so) of the slideshow.
